ERMA— Lower Township Police are investigating a hit and run accident here on Breakwater Road and Carriage Lane that occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21.
Ptl. Michael Majane was on patrol when he found a 12 year-old male crying in the roadway. Majane learned the child had been struck by a vehicle and the driver had left the scene, according to Sgt. John Chew.
Lower Township Rescue Squad and Medic 9 were dispatched to the scene.
The victim was reported to be alert however disoriented as to what happened. Lower, emergency medical technicians reported the victims bicycle to be “deformed and obviously hit by something”
Medevac 5 was requested to airlift the victim however was forced to abort the flight a few miles from Cape May Airport due to deteriorating weather conditions.
The victim was transported by ground to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center’s trauma unit in Atlantic City by Lower Township Rescue and Medic 9.
The driver of the vehicle that left the scene returned to the scene ten minutes later, said Chew.
The driver, whose name was not released, was charged with failing to maintain a lane, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and failing to report an accident.
