Driver Charged with DWI After Hitting Pole

WEST CAPE MAY — On Sunday Feb. 28, Lower Township police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a motor vehicle accident in the 500 Block of Sunset Blvd, reported to be a vehicle vs. a pole.
Patrol Officer Ed Edwards responded to the scene along with members of Lower Township Rescue Squad. Officers located Denise Leaming, 42, of Runnemede, standing outside of her vehicle, a 1998, Plymouth Neon.
Leaming appeared to be intoxicated and had facial injuries sustained in the accident. She was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by Lower Township Rescue Squad for treatment of her injuries. Officers accompanied Leaming to the hospital where they requested a blood sample as part of their accident investigation.
While on scene, officers reported that the telephone pole that Leaming struck had caught on fire from damage to the electrical wires. Leaming was charged with the following motor vehicle violations: Driving While Intoxicated,Careless Driving, and Uninsured Motorist. The accident is under investigation by Cpl William Priole & Patrolman Ed Edwards.
