ERMA – On Jan. 11, at approximately 2:39 p.m., Lower Township Police Department investigated a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 9, in the area of Carol Avenue, in Erma.
A multi-agency response was activated, with assistance from Erma Fire Department, AtlantiCare medics, as well as Lower Township Rescue Squad. It was reported that three vehicles were involved, with one vehicle sustaining airbag deployment.
Upon police arrival at the crash scene, three vehicles were still in the roadway, which included a red Ford Escape, a white Ford cargo van, and a large box truck. Lower and Middle Township Police immediately shut down a portion of Route 9, between Shirley Avenue and Church Road, to traffic, during the investigation, for safety purposes.
The driver of the Ford Escape, later identified as Brittani M. Roach, 32, of Erma, was then evaluated by rescue personnel and ultimately transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
The crash investigation determined that the Ford Escape was traveling north on Route 9, behind the other two vehicles, when it struck the Ford cargo van from behind, causing the cargo van to strike the large box truck from behind. Two of the vehicles were towed from the scene, after being deemed safe to do so by fire personnel.
Roach was issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving.
The crash was investigated by Patrolman Anthony Micciche and Patrolman Adam Hegarty.
The individual(s) listed is/are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
