Drill Simulates Tank Truck Rollover

By Herald Staff

ERMA — Cape May County CBRNE Task Force hosted a comprehensive training exercise entitled “Bottoms Up” on Sept. 13-14 at Erma Vol. Fire Department.
The Weavertown Environmental Group (WEG) transported their “one of a kind” tank truck simulator from Carnegie, Pa. to Erma.
The unit, designed by WEG, is equipped with a self-contained hydraulic system that rotates the trailer into various positions simulating a tanker “rollover” incident. The simulator is fully operational and is equipped with a number of identical features found on trailers currently used for transport.
Members of CMC CBRNE Task Force, US Coast Guard, State Police Hazardous Materials Response Unit and Erma Volunteer Fire Department received training to recognize and identify the hazards associated with tank truck rollovers and effective control measures.
