WILDWOOD CREST — On Wednesday, June 24, a Wildwood Crest police dispatcher was instrumental in saving a teen aged choking victim.
According to a release, police received a 9-1-1 call at 6:37 p.m. from the 400 block of East Palm Road that a 13-year-old male, the caller’s grandson, was choking.
Dispatcher Ralph DiLossi immediately dispatched Wildwood Crest police units, City of Wildwood Ambulance Corps and Advanced Life Support Para-Medics from Medic 5.
DiLossi then began to instruct the grandmother of the youth on the proper administration of the Heimlich maneuver. The grandmother of the victim relayed the information to her husband, the boy’s grandfather, who properly administered the procedure.
The result of those actions was that the unknown object was dislodged from the boy’s throat. Upon police and rescue squad arrival, the boy was conscious and breathing. The boy was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center.
All police dispatchers for the Wildwood Crest Police Department attend training in emer-gency medical dispatch, which instructs them on the proper ways to relay life-saving infor-mation to callers prior to the arrival of police and medical personnel.
