Crash Injures 92-Year-Old Driver, Damaged Pole Closed Rt. 47

RIO GRANDE – Middle Township Police Department responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Route 47 in Rio Grande Feb. 14 at approximately 6:45 p.m.   
The investigation revealed Frances Guinan, 92, of Villas, was travelling northbound on Route 47, when she went off the roadway and struck a utility pole in the area of the Shannon Oaks development. It is unknown at this time why she left the roadway. 
Guinan suffered multiple injuries and was flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center via Medevac 4.
Due to the damage to the utility pole, a section of Route 47 was closed until approximately 7 a.m. Feb. 15. Route 47 is now open.
Assisting on the accident scene were the Rio Grande Fire Company, Middle Township EMS, and the New Jersey State Police/state Department of Transportation Traffic Unit. Patrolman Michael Reardon investigated.
