This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
VILLAS – On April 26, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Lower Township Police Department was dispatched to a one-car motor vehicle crash that involved a vehicle striking a residence in Villas. A multi-agency response was activated, with assistance from Town Bank Fire Department and Lower Township Rescue Squad.
According to a release, upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle who was still behind the wheel and attempting to exit the vehicle through the passenger side door. The green Jaguar XJ6 was lodged into the side of the residence in the 400 block Sandalwood Road and caused a portion of the foundation of the residence to crack due to the impact.
The driver, who was identified as Joanne M. Thomas, 63, of Villas, was evaluated by rescue personnel and signed a patient refusal for care.
Officers investigated the scene further and decided to run Thomas through standard field sobriety testing, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the subject for driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol.
Thomas was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to produce required documents. She was also found to be in possession of prescription level medication without a prescription and issued a criminal complaint summonses for possession of prescription legend drugs, fourth degree. Thomas was released on her own recognizance, pending court proceedings.
Once the scene was deemed safe by the township building inspector, the vehicle was towed from the scene as per John’s Law.
The accident was investigated by Patrolman William Kocis and Special Officer Michael Harkin, with assistance from Patrolwoman Jennifer Anzelone and Patrolman Jason Felsing.
