Crash Claims Life of Cape May Man

By Herald Staff

COLD SPRING — A rain-slick road was a possible factor in the May 22 single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Cape May man.
According to Lower Township Police, at 2:51 a.m., they received a report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of Fishing Creek Road.
Patrol officers responded as did Lower Township Rescue Squad and members of Town Bank and Erma fire departments for a Jaws of Life assignment.
Investigation at the scene determined that the vehicle, a 2000 Ford pickup truck, F150, was southbound on Fishing Creek Road approaching Shunpike Road, when its driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole.
The driver, Ryan W. Cluff, 20, of the 1100 Block of Virginia Avenue, Cape May, was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic 9 Paramedics via telemetry ACMC.
Cape May County Medical Examiner Investigator, Elizabeth Owens, also responded to the scene.
The victim was extricated from the vehicle by fire department personnel. The accident is currently under investigation by Cpl. David Fisher and Patrolman Eric Coombs of the Lower Township Police Department Fatal Accident Review Team.
