Court House Crash Injures Two

COURT HOUSE — An accident on Route 9 near the local Wawa sent two motorists to the hospital Jan. 30.
According to police reports, the accident occurred at 6:42 p.m. when a car driven by David Atkinson, 20, of Court House, attempted to enter the southbound lanes of Route 9 from School House Lane. At the same time, Clarence Street, 41, of Dorchester was traveling north on Route 9, passing the Wawa.
Atkinson failed to see Street’s oncoming vehicle and attempted to make a left-hand turn into the convenience store, causing the two vehicles to impact head-on.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and both drivers were injured. Street was extricated from his vehicle by the use of the Jaws of Life. Both men were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment..
Officers from the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office, Middle Township Emergency Medical Services, Stone Harbor Emergency Medical Services and Cape May Court House Fire Department responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Ptl. Brian Murphy of the Middle Township Police Department.
