COURT HOUSE – Cape May County recorded two fatalities in 2016, to date, as a result of two separate motor vehicle crashes. Both were drivers of their cars.
As of Jan. 11, there had been 17 motor vehicle-related fatalities statewide to date according to New Jersey State Police statistics.
The latest fatality took place Jan. 9 on Route 347, Eldora. Troopers from N.J. State Police Woodbine Station responded to a one-car motor vehicle crash northbound at milepost .6 at 1:49 p.m.
The investigation revealed that a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by Donna M. Nabozny, 65, of Pennsylvania was traveling north. Nabozny failed to maintain her lane of travel and vehicle ran off of the road toward the right shoulder and struck a tree.
Nabozny was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.
Three days earlier, the driver involved in a motor vehicle crash Jan. 5 died just after midnight Jan. 8, according to State Police.
Jenabelle Reese, 74, died at 12:30 a.m. at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus.
State Police from Woodbine Station were dispatched to the scene Jan. 5 at 8:47 a.m. involving three vehicles on Route 9 at milepost 29.0 in Upper Township, according to a release.
A silver 2014 Chevrolet was northbound on Route 9. For an unknown reason, that vehicle drifted into the southbound lane of travel. It suddenly veered back toward the northbound lane.
The vehicle then lost control and struck a blue 2016 Ford Explorer which was parked and unoccupied on Route 9 northbound. The impact caused that vehicle to strike a white 2014 F250 also parked and unoccupied on Route 9 northbound. The impact caused Reese’s vehicle to overturn on its roof in the center of the highway 9.
Reese sustained serious injuries and was transported to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point before being transported to AtlantiCare.
