GOSHEN — A Delaware River Port Authority police officer was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident Tue., Dec. 27 at approximately 9:15 p.m.
According to Middle Township police the accident occurred in the area of milepost 12.9 on Route 47.
Upon their arrival, a police investigation revealed Robert W. Wright, 19, of Woodbine had pulled onto Rte. 47 from a driveway in the area of Cardinal Drive and was traveling north in a 2001 Mustang. He traveled four-tenths of a mile and was rear-ended by a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Mark Mankoski, 49, of Franklinville.
Wright’s vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a fence while Mankoski proceeded to travel north-bound on Route 47.
Mankoski was eventually located approximately one-half mile from the scene of the accident by Goshen Fire Chief F. Svitak.
An investigation revealed Mankoski was under the influence of alcohol and he was placed under arrest.
Both drivers refused medical treatment.
Mankoski was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Careless Driving. He was released after being processed. Mankoski is a sergeant with the Delaware River Port Authority.
The investigation into the accident is still pending and additional charges may be forthcoming.
The investigating officer is Officer Michelle Brown.
