Coast Guard Rescues Four off Cape May

By Herald Staff

U.S. COAST GUARD RELEASE:
CAPE MAY — The Coast Guard rescued four people after their 75-foot fishing boat was taking on water 80 miles southeast of Cape May Monday, Aug. 3.
The Coast Guard received a call at approximately 3:30 a.m. from a crew member aboard the Alexander II reporting they were taking on water and abandoning ship.
A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and hoisted all four people from their life raft.
Due to adverse weather the rescue helicopter crew transported all four people to Cape May County Airport in Wildwood, N.J., where they were transferred to awaiting medical personnel.
No injuries were reported.
The incident is under investigation.
“They did everything right,” said Lt. Neal Corbin, a pilot from the rescue crew. “They evaluated the situation and when we arrived on scene they had already donned their survival suits and were shooting off flares. They took effective control.”
