By Herald Staff

ATLANTIC CITY — The Coast Guard rescued four people Aug. 17 after the 26-foot boat they were on became disabled 30 miles off the coast of Cape Henlopen, Del.
The Coast Guard received a call at 8:33 p.m. reporting the fishing boat JJ Rock and Reel with four people aboard was three hours overdue from a fishing trip.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Indian River, Del., an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City and a C-130 Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., searched for the missing boaters.
The location of the JJ Rock and Reel’s crew was pinpointed by the Coast Guard’s Rescue 21 system.
Rescue 21 is a newly established search and rescue and command and control system, leveraging 21st century technology to boost search and rescue capability and better protect the nation’s coastal waterways and ports.
The helicopter crew reported they located a boat where the members aboard were waving handheld flares.
The rescue boat crew headed to the location and transported all four passengers from the JJ Rock and Reel aboard.
The Coast Guard boat crew took the disabled boat in tow to North Shore Marina near the Coast Guard station.
