ERMA – Lower Township Police Department responded to a one-car motor vehicle crash in the area of the Cape May County Airport on Breakwater Road in Erma at 6:11 p.m. Aug. 5.
Cpl. Ryan Hansberry said the vehicle, driven by Rodney Cleave, 66, of Limerick, Pa., struck a utility pole and then came to rest in a field.
Cleave was experiencing an adverse medical condition that caused him to lose consciousness at the time of the crash, said Hansberry.
He was flown by helicopter to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus for treatment of the condition, along with bruised and cracked ribs and lacerations to the face.
The crash caused a power outage in the area, and the road was closed and detoured for 24 hours, according to Hansberry.
