By Press Release

By Town Bank Battalion Chief DEKON FASHAW
SCHELLENGERS LANDING- Town Bank Volunteer Fire Company along with Cape May City Fire/Rescue and the Coast Guard Fire Department were called to the boat ramp located behind Luck Bones Restaurant for a vehicle and boat trailer submerged in the water, Nov. 18 at approximately 1:18 p.m.
Upon arrival officers found that the owner of a light duty pick-up truck, towing a 21-foot Bay liner boat, accidentally slipped backwards as they attempted to launch their boat into the water.
Cape May Fire Lt. Michael Eck and Town Bank Lt. Harry Godfrey, both rescue swimmers, were sent into the water to secure the vehicle and assist the tow company with removing the vehicle from the water and remove the vehicle’s driver from the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
After a short time, the vehicle and driver were removed with the boat being safely transferred back onto the trailer it had slipped off of during its launch. Fire units were assisted by Lower Township Rescue Squad and members of the Lower Township police.
