BURLEIGH — A banner plane crash landed in the rear fence at the Catalina Motel on North Wildwood Boulevard near Garden State Parkway about 5:45 p.m. July 26.
Middle Township police asked that a detective respond, with one reported injury of the pilot.
Witnesses said they saw the plane lose power, drop its banner in the vicinity of Garden Lake Mobile Home Park and then crashed into the rear of the motel.
The 25-year-old pilot Matthew Wolf of East Stroudsburg, Pa.sustained facial trauma and and possible injury to his right shoulder. He was airlifted to a medical facility.
According to FAA files, the aircraft was registered to Paramount Air Service, Inc. of Rio Grande. It was a Piper PA-12, fixed wing, single engine manufactured in 1947. Its engine was a Lycoming, classified as “restricted,” it was used solely for aerial advertising.
It is the second time this summer that a banner plane has gone down. The first went down on July 4 at Reeds Beach. That pilot was not injured.
