As of April 30, County Had Five Fatal Accidents

COURT HOUSE – Since Jan. 1, Cape May County recorded five motor vehicle fatalities as of April 30, 2014. Three of those occurred three days apart on roads in Middle Township. Statewide as of that date, there were 157 fatalities in 153 crashes, according to New Jersey State Police unofficial statistics.
A Jan. 16 single-vehicle accident on Route 9 in Cold Spring, Lower Township claimed a woman’s life in a 5:23 p.m. after her vehicle struck some trees and rolled over.
A Feb. 25 single-vehicle accident at 2:51 p.m. on Route 47 North, Goshen, Middle Township claimed a man’s life after his car struck two utility poles.
On Avalon Boulevard, in Middle Township April 22 at 4:52 p.m., a two-vehicle accident claimed a man’s life.
On Route 47 South, at mile post 5.2 near Rio Grande in Middle Township, at 10:04 p.m., a two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of two men.
Elsewhere in the state, Monmouth County has recorded the most traffic fatalities with 14.
Twelve traffic deaths each were listed in Camden, Middlesex, and Union counties.
There were 11 traffic deaths each recorded in Atlantic, Mercer and Ocean counties.
In Bergen and Burlington counties, each recorded 10 deaths.
In Passaic and Essex each, eight traffic deaths, in Somerset there were seven, Hudson had six.
There were four in Gloucester, three each in Cumberland, Morris, Salem and Warren counties.
Two traffic fatalities were listed in Sussex and Hunterdon counties.
Of those who died, 87 were drivers, 19 were passengers, three were bicyclists, and 48 were pedestrians.
The State Police noted that the reports were compiled by its Fatal Accident Investigation Unit. Statistics in the report are preliminary and are subject to change.
