Alleged Drunk Driver Has Near Miss with Ambulance

WILDWOOD — An ambulance was almost struck head-on by an alleged drunk driver Thurs., March 22 at approximately 7:22 p.m.
According to police reports, dispatchers received a call from a city rescue unit of a possible intoxicated driver. The vehicle was driving the wrong way on the 4200 block of Arctic Avenue.
Upon police arrival, the vehicle was stopped in the 100 block of West Baker Avenue, where rescue personnel were detaining the driver, who was identified as Desmond R. Peterson, 22, of Long Beach Calif.
Further investigation revealed prior to police arrival Peterson lunged toward a firefighter in an attempt to strike him.
Peterson was charged with aggravated assault against a fireman; resisting arrest; DWI; DWI refusal; reckless driving; possession of open containers of alcohol in a motor vehicle; and several other motor vehicle violations.
The suspect was placed on a warrant complaint and is being lodged in Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $25,000 full cash bail.
