Motor vehicle related fatalities dropped by fifty percent in 2010 to the lowest number in five years, according to data from the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration and New Jersey State Police. There were four traffic related fatalities in Cape May County in 2010 down from twenty-four in 2005.
Cape May County Fatality Numbers
2005: Twenty-four crash fatalities, eight of which were DUI related. Two were pedestrians and three were motorcyclist.
2006: Fifteen crash fatalities, six of which were DUI related. One pedestrian was killed and two motorcyclist.
2007: Twenty-one crash fatalities, three of which were DUI related. One pedestrian was killed and two motorcyclist.
2008: Eleven crash fatalities, six of which were DUI related. No pedestrians were killed this year but 5 motorcyclist were; the highest number in the past five years.
2009: Eight crash fatalities, three of which were DUI related. One pedestrian was killed. There were no motorcyclist fatalities this year the lowest in the past five years.
2010: The lowest number of traffic related fatalities in the past five years with four killed. None of the crashes involved impaired drivers and no pedestrians were killed. One motorcyclist was killed.
