The Philadelphia 76ers will continue the Summer Hoops Tour on Thursday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at Wildwood Crest in Wildwood, NJ. Ambassador of 76ers Basketball and Director of Player Development World B. Free hosts the basketball clinic.
Continuing in its tradition, the 2008 Summer Hoops Tour will provide youngsters throughout the Philadelphia-area the opportunity to improve their basketball skills and learn from Free and other members of the 76ers front office and staff. Participants will be led through a series of drills and games emphasizing the fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, rebounding and the importance of teamwork.
“Giving back to the community is important to the Sixers organization and the Summer Hoops Tour is a program that does just that,” said Free. “The summer months are the perfect time for us to hit the courts throughout the Philadelphia region spreading a positive message while we teach the game of basketball.”
After debuting with 14 locations in 1996, the Summer Hoops Tour has grown tremendously during its 12-year existence and will include 30 clinics this summer. The tour encompasses the entire Philadelphia region from Oxford, Pa to the Jersey Shore.
The Summer Hoops Tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. The Pepsi Bottling Group will provide Aquafina water, Dick’s Sporting Good’s will give away coupons to be used in their stores, and the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association will provide water bottles and headbands for the participants at each of the 30 stops.
