NEWELL, JOAN H.
Joan H. Newell, a beacon of unwavering faith and love, departed from this world on December 22, 2024, at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy rich in family, faith, and community. Born on May 5, 1932, in North Bergen, New Jersey, Joan was the cherished matriarch of a family that spanned five generations.
Joan was a lifelong learner and moved to Cape May County as a teenager in 1945. Her nurturing spirit and passion for service led her to an active role in her church community, where she was a dedicated member of The Gathering Church of Corbin City. She previously worshipped at Grace Baptist Church in Rio Grande and at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Wildwood, embedding herself deeply in her faith communities.
Joan's children, Donna (Tom) Davis, Paula (Paul) Brennan, Anna Marie (Jeff) Salasin, Lisa Newell, and Paul Newell, Jr., as well as her sisters Kathryn Hutchison and Bonnie Lilliston, and brothers Thomas Martin and Theodore Martin Jr., will dearly miss her guiding hand and tender care. Her memory will be a comforting presence for her seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Joan rejoins her beloved husband, Paul Newell, Sr., and her brother, Peter Martin, who preceded her in death.
Known for her loving heart and friendly smile, Joan was a woman of profound faith and service. She cherished her role as a Sunday school teacher and Bible group member, spreading joy and kindness through her culinary talents and her church involvement.
