An estimated 250 braved the cold March 4 to light candles of hope and offer prayers of support for Jerry Griffin, a Lower Township elementary school physical education teacher, hospitalized in Camden after he collapsed in the gym Feb. 26.
Lower Township Mayor Erik Simonsen and other members of township council joined the solemn occasion that brought former and present students, parents, friends, and co-workers together on the baseball diamond behind Lower Cape May Regional High School where Griffin coached. Town Bank Fire Company provided an aerial truck for overhead photography.
