AVALON – Moran’s Dockside, the bait, tackle and hoagie shop that has been a fixture in Avalon at the 14th Street Sport Fishing Center, has won the bid competition for another five-year period, during which Jim Moran and family can continue to do what they have been doing since 1988.
At the Borough Council meeting Jan. 22, the borough’s purchasing agent, Joe Clark, told the governing body that Moran’s Dockside had won the bid.
Avalon made use of the state’s competitive contract process to seek dockmaster and bait shop services for a new five-year cycle. The bids were opened on Jan. 3 and resulted in what Clark called a “fabulous candidate,” Moran’s.
The winner will pay an annual fee to the borough of $15,600, with a Consumer Price Index escalator each year. The borough will extend a $10,000 credit for the dockmaster services. The five-year duration of the contract is to allow sufficient time to justify reinvestment into the business should that be desired or needed.
The council must still formally approve the award, but there were no questions or comments that indicated anything but a positive outcome for Moran’s.
