COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township Police Department is seeking donations from the community to support two programs aimed at fostering healthy interactions between the police and the area’s youth.
The eighth annual summer camp is geared for incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Its primary goal is to foster healthy interactions between police and youth while instilling decision-making skills. The camp is free, and more than 500 youths have attended over its lifetime.
Each camp day begins at the police academy in Cape May Court House, with morning drills and physical training followed by a variety of fun activities. These include daily field trips, such as visits to the water park and live law enforcement demonstrations. Additionally, through the camp’s partnership with Cape Assist, campers receive daily life skills lessons that are tied to the activities and reinforced throughout the day.
Donations will offset costs of lunch, snacks and field trips.
In addition to the summer camp, donations are being sought to cover costs associated with the National Night Out event during the summer. This community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live.
National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 5, and will feature a variety of activities such as live music, food stalls, games and interactive demonstrations by law enforcement agencies.
Donations can be made to Middle Township Police Youth Camp and mailed to the Middle Township Police Department, 31 Mechanic St., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210, attention Sgt. David Hagan.
