COURT HOUSE – In August Middle Township introduced an ordinance for the regulation of food trucks. The ordinance was adopted in September. At its Monday, Nov. 11, meeting the Township Committee introduced an amendment to the ordinance after hearing complaints from several food truck operators during public comment periods in October.

The amended ordinance maintains the requirement that mobile food venders must obtain an annual license from the township, which must be conspicuously displayed on the vehicle. Most requirements of the ordinance remain the same as stated in the adopted September ordinance, with the exception of several time constraints.

Vendors are now given up to 12 hours in one location within a 24-hour period. The previous limit had been two hours. For private parties a three-day limit was expanded to five consecutive days, with a minimum of seven days between events at the same location.

In addition, an earlier requirement regarding placement of generators is no longer in the amended ordinance.

A second reading of the ordinance with consideration for adoption and a required public hearing will take place at the Township Committee’s Monday, Dec. 18 meeting at 6 p.m.
