MATTIA, YOLANDA M.

MATTIA, YOLANDA M. Yolanda M. Mattia, fondly known as "Lonnie," 106, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023. Born on August 14, 1917, in Philadelphia, PA, Lonnie led a life that was rich in faith, family ties, professional accomplishments, and dedicated service to her community. Lonnie's strong intellect and compassionate spirit illuminated her work history as she served at Girard Trust Bank in Philadelphia as a loan officer before her retirement in 1977. However, her contributions extended far beyond her professional role. Steadfast in her political beliefs, Lonnie graced the Lower Township Democratic Committee as an active Committee-person, tirelessly championing the causes she believed in. Among Lonnie's notable involvements was her devoted membership at St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, Maris Stella Church in Avalon. Dedicated to the Blessed Mother, her faith was an anchor, evident by her daily multiple recitations of the rosary, and her cherished correspondence with Padre Pio. Lonnie was not just dedicated to her work and faith, but also possessed a palpable enthusiasm for furthering joy among her community at Brookdale, where she resided. By organizing poker games and active with Bingo, Ceramics and other activities, Lonnie imbued the residents with her infectious spirit and enduring love for fun and companionship. And let's not forget, she was a lifelong and diehard Phillies fan, her love for the game originating from her young girl days at the Philadelphia A's and the Phillies games. Foremost though, Lonnie's life revolved around her family. Predeceased by her husband, Carmen J. Mattia, and her parents, Napoleon and Angelina LaFazia Finizio and Brother William Finizio, Lonnie leaves behind a loving son, Carl (Dona) Mattia, a caring daughter, Marianne (Gene) Pittelli, six beloved grand-children, and twelve cherished great-grandchildren who all have great memories of their loving grandmother. Yolanda "Lonnie" Mattia, a woman of compassion and diligence, will be profoundly missed. Her legacy will continue to live on through the lives she lovingly touched. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, Maris Stella Church, 50th Street and Dune Drive, Avalon, NJ 08202 where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cold Spring, NJ. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph Villa, 110 West Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, PA 19031 and the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1 Our Lady's Circle, Malvern, PA 19335.
