LYNCH, JOAN MARIE

LYNCH, JOAN MARIE
Joan Marie Lynch, a creative and faith-filled soul, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, in Cape May Court House, NJ, leaving behind a legacy of art, compassion, and academic excellence. Born on June 1, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, Joan's early years spent in Philadelphia were the foundation of a life lived with exuberance and a deep appreciation for the finer arts.
During her junior and senior years of high school, Joan's passion for art led her to attend the Moore Institute of Art in Philadelphia on Saturdays. After graduating from high school in 1955, Joan's journey took a spiritual turn when she joined the convent of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She expanded her academic pursuits by attending Trinity College and Catholic University, where she received two Master's degrees, one in the History of Art and the other in Fine Art, by 1960.
Joan's path evolved once again in 1966 when she left the convent, embracing a new chapter in Philadelphia. There, she began a rewarding career as Scheduling Coordinator at Villanova University in 1967. Joan quickly became an indispensable member of the Villanova community, touching many lives through her artistry until her retirement in 1999. Known for her congenial nature and artistic skills, she contributed to numerous campus events and left her mark each year by painting the spirited Wildcat logo on the basketball court at the Fieldhouse.
Joan's creative talents extended beyond her professional life, as she was a remarkable artist, particularly in capturing the beauty of birds and animals. Her appreciation for the arts was as vast as it was deep, with a particular fondness for opera. Many a time, she could be found at the New York Met, reveling in the power and emotion of soaring arias and dramatic performances.
Her love for animals shone through her companionship with her beloved dog, Jamie, who was both a source of inspiration and joy in her daily life.
She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Manning (Edward) and Patricia Scheetz, sister-in-law Pat Lynch, and a host of nieces and nephews who will remember her for her friendly demeanor and loving heart. She was predeceased by her parents, John Paul Lynch and Margaret Coyle Lynch, her brother William Lynch, and brother-in-law Tom Scheetz.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo will be private. Donations in Joan's memory may be made to Serenity Hospice, 56 Georgetown Road, Bordentown, NJ 08505.
