Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Erma, NJ has a mission team that saw a need in the Ukraine. The desire to help sparked and a way to help formed quickly. They partnered with the Ukraine Orthodox Church in Clifton NJ. The church had already sent donations over via plane twice and had a direct link to the Refugee Camps and those in the Country. The list of items most needed was supplied and passed out to Cape May County. Local businesses stepped up to offer their facility as a drop off point (Whalen’s Auto, 7 Mile Brewery, Lower Township City Hall, Middle Township City Hall, and the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce). The word spread quickly and the items were being picked up from some of the drop off points multiple times a day. It was amazing to see the outpouring, even when The ability to get the items into the Ukraine was halted for a few days. In one week, the Missions team at Tabernacle UMC were able to fill a truck. Boy Scout Pack #87 as well as many volunteers organized and and sealed up over 100 boxes of the donations. 7 MIle Brewery donated the truck’s use and drove the items up for delivery. Upon arrival, Tabernacle’s Mission team was told that Medical items are the most needed items over there at this moment. Tourniquets, 1st aid kits, bandages ad blood stopping medications are the top desired items. The separated and organized boxes were able to be put in a separate pile to go on the plane that night. If there is room, the rest will go but if not, they will be on the boat later this week. What a blessing Cape May County has been! Amazing what a community can do! Stay tuned for the next relief drive!
