Ava Pierce, a junior at LCMR, jumped her best during sectionals. Pierce is in her second year on the winter track team.
“She is dedicated student athlete and leader amongst her peers,” Winter track coach Syd Peterkin said. “It is leading her to be one of the team’s captains this season. Ava led the team with her consistent efforts in the high jump and the 55 high hurdles.”
Pierce had the best jump of the season at the group two sectionals with a height of 4 feet 10 inches, which placed her fourth and qualified her for her first trip to the indoor state championships.
The opening height at the championships was 4 feet 10 inches, her personal best, which she cleared and finished in 15th place for group two girls.
“We are very proud of her and we look forward to new heights and continued hard work from Ava in the spring season and for her senior year,” Peterkin said.
