WILDWOOD – Wildwood High School honored two current standout basketball players and the legendary Coach Dave Troiano on Feb. 13.
The ceremony took place between the Wildwood girls and boys basketball double header games against Pennsville Memorial High School.
Boys basketball senior Kyion Flanders was recognized for reaching a rare milestone of scoring 2,000 career points on Feb. 10 and girls basketball junior Maddie McCracken was acknowledged for reaching 1,000 career points earlier this season.
Troiano was honored for his thirty-nine seasons with the Lady Warriors by having the court renamed after him and former coach Bernie McCracken.
Troiano retired in October 2017 and began his career in the 1977-78 season and has compiled an overall record of 682-326. On Feb. 13, 2017, he became the fourth girls’ basketball coach in the state to coach 1,000 varsity games.
Under his leadership, the Lady Warriors basketball program has won 14 Cape-Atlantic and Tri-County Division and Conference titles. His teams were 9-2 in South Jersey Group 1 sectional games with the first title coming in 1986 and the last coming in 2017. Wildwood appeared in six NJSIAA State Championship games, going 4-2, and winning in 1991, 2000, 2001, and 2002.
