Track & Field Championships

Charles Fields of Wildwood Catholic had multiple first place finishes in the Non-Public B championships.

The group stage of the track and field championships took place over the weekend with many athletes from the county competing against the top in the state.
The Wildwood Catholic boys team saw the most success with multiple top five finishes in the Non-Public B group. The Crusaders finished third overall with 61 team points. Charles Fields took home gold medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Caleb Fields took fifth and sixth places, respectively, in the same events. The 4×100-meter relay team of Aiden Saul, Rakim Coyle, Caleb and Charles Fields finished in first place. Rakim Coyle won first place in the boys long jump with teammate Caleb Fields finishing second. Coyle also placed second in the triple jump. Erick Feria finished fifth in the 800-meter run while Chris Johnson finished twelfth in the 1600-meter run.
Coyle, Saul and both Fields will continue their journeys in the Meet of Champions on June 9 at North Burlington High School.
In Group III, Ocean City’s Matt Zelinski placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles and ninth in the 400-meter dash. Teammate Paul Short finished fourteenth in the 800-meter run while Kevin King placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles.
Zelinski and 4×100-meter relay team of Jesse Schmeizer, Korey Greene, Paul Short and Luke Kramer will compete in the Meet of Champions.
In Group II, Middle Township’s Gary James Nagle placed eighth in the pole vault with teammate Sean Geary placing twentieth in the 400-meter hurdles. Lower Cape May’s Will Berger finished nineteenth in the 3200-meter run.
Leo Zaccaria of Wildwood finished eleventh in the boys 1600-meter run in Group I.
On the girls side in Group III, Ocean City’s Alexa Palmieri finished ninth in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs while Casey McLees placed twelfth and fourteenth, respectively. Alexa Weber placed thirteenth in the 3200-meter run. Sophia Gresham finished fourth in the long jump.
Gresham and Palmieri will continue to compete in the girls events at the Meet of Champions.
Lower Cape May’s Christina Adams placed eleventh in the girls javelin throw in Group II while Middle Township’s Kate Herlihy finished seventeenth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Julia Sorensen of Wildwood Catholic placed sixth in the 1600-meter run and fifth in the 3200-meter run for Non-Public B. Teammate Joelle Osborne placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles.
