SEA ISLE CITY — Over 1300 runners from across the region – and as far away as Quebec, California and Florida – competed in the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s 43rd Annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run on August 10. The Island Run featured individual runners, members of running clubs and other athletes who represented organizations, families and groups of friends. The race took place at 5:30 p.m. along Sea Isle City’s Promenade and Beach, beginning and ending at 44th Street in front of the SICBP’s headquarters. Weather conditions were ideal.
Afterwards, trophies and cash prizes were awarded to the event’s top performers in numerous divisions and age groups.
The overall winner of this year’s Island Run was Kyle Dawson, 24, of Coatsville, PA. Dawson, who was the second place runner in 2012’s Island Run, finished this year’s race in 54 minutes, 18.05 seconds.
John Pickhaver, 23, of Drexel Hill, PA, finished in second place overall with a time of 54:40.69; and Justin Scheid, 27, of Sparta, NJ, finish in third with a time of 55:02.34.
Kerri Gallagher, 24, of Arlington, VA, was the first runner to cross the finish line in the Female Division, completing the race with a time of 1:04:13.88. Gallagher was followed by Catherine Campbell, 23, of Carlisle, PA, 1:07:29.91, and Katie Rodden, 20, of Havertown, PA, 1:08:58.90.
Runners representing “For Pete’s Sake,” a charitable organization that offers respite vacations for adult cancer patients, received the award for the event’s fastest Corporate Team.
Bernie Gallagher, 72, of Fairfax, VA, was the top performer in the “Over 70” age group, completing the race with a time of 1:29:30.28. Gallagher was followed by Herb Townsend, 75, of Ocean City, NJ, who completed the race with a time of 1:35:20.75.
