SEA ISLE CITY – July 12, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol hosted their first 1-Mile Ocean Swim along the resort’s coastline between 44th and 61st Street, where 100 athletes from swim clubs, high schools, colleges and beach patrol organizations competed in a box-swim race in the Atlantic Ocean.
According to SICBP Captain Renny Steele, he and his fellow guards are very pleased with the event’s inaugural outing.
“The race went very well,” said Steele, a 44-year veteran with the SICBP. “The ocean water was crystal clear, and everyone had a great experience.”
After the race, trophies were distributed to the event’s top swimmers in numerous age groups and categories.
The fastest swimmer overall was Jesse Fallon, 20, of Wyndmoor, PA, with a time of 23 minutes, 34.60 seconds. Fallon, who recently completed the SICBP’s Rookie School and is currently a lifeguard for Sea Isle, is also a swimmer for the University of Cincinnati. While a student at Springfield Township High School, in Montgomery County, PA, he was a four-year varsity letterman and he helped his team win the District Swimming Championships during his sophomore and junior years.
The 1-Mile Ocean Swim’s overall second place winner was Alexandra Santer, 17, of Wilmington, DE, who finished the race in 23 minutes, 36.63 seconds. Santer was followed by third-place winner Michael Kell, 20, of Ocean City, NJ, who finished in 24 minutes and 2.98 seconds.
