SEA ISLE CITY — Seafood and a variety of family activities will highlight Sea Isle City’s third annual Harborfest celebration on Sat., Oct. 2 Sponsored by Sea Isle Revitalization in cooperation with the City of Sea Isle City, the event will be a “celebration of the bay” on 42nd Place, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition to a great selection of seafood and a variety of other delicacies, festival-goers will enjoy interesting maritime exhibits, nautical displays and fishing demonstrations. There will also be boat rides and an ecumenical Blessing of the Fleet by local religious leaders, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. on the city’s commercial fishing docks.
In the “Children’s Fun Area,” kids will be delighted by numerous free activities, including a bounce-house, games, face painting, prizes and more. Youngsters will also be happy to learn that Gillian’s Funland Amusement Park will be offering discounted wristbands during Harborfest 2010.
Adults and children will enjoy Harborfest’s Vendors Market, where a variety of crafts, collectibles and souvenirs will be available. Displays from numerous local organizations and civic groups will also keep everyone entertained, as will the live music by The Daisy Jug Band.
A local radio station will be on hand as well, providing music during live broadcasts.
New this year is the “Harborfest Best of Sea Isle Chowder Contest,” which will feature entries from local restaurants.
Organizers anticipate that the chowder contest will be a big attraction and that many varieties of the popular dish will be entered for judging.
The winner of the chowder cook-off will receive a trophy, a plaque and the title of “Best Chowder in Sea Isle City.”
Harborfest celebrates Sea Isle’s commercial fishing history and the fact that our town is one of only two communities in the county that has an working waterfront with lobster, scallop and conch boats, tuna long-liners, crabbers, clammers and trollers,” said Rachael Morrison, executive director of Sea Isle Revitalization.
