RIO GRANDE – After 26 years as a regular sports columnist for the Herald, Joe Rossi is heading for the sidelines.
At the time of Rossi’s first appearance in the paper – Sept. 13, 1989, then-Editor Joe Zelnik introduced Rossi as a “Sports Nut” who will be writing “about anything and everything sports-connected.”
In his first “Games People Play” column, Rossi shared a salute to the summer softball league champions and a preview of the upcoming high school football season.
Over the decades, Rossi has covered just about everything sports-connected, various sports, various teams, various coaches and various players, throughout Cape May County and, occasionally, beyond, to New Brunswick, to cover championship games.
Rossi is taking himself out of regular play, but says he may step back into the lineup occasionally, perhaps to share a certain sports story the Rossi way.
We hope he will, and, on behalf of countless Herald readers, we thank him for his many years of play.
