Results for the 2011 4th Annual Cape May Point Women’s Lifeguard Challenge

CAPE MAY POINT – Results for the 4th Annual Cape May Point Women’s Lifeguard Challenge from Wednesday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m.
The race consisted of a 1.2 mile soft sand run, 3/4 mile paddle, and 1/2 mile swim. Beach Patrols are allowed to enter up to two female competitors to compete and score individually and as a team.
This year’s race faced some early rain, but it cleared up. Water conditions were relatively calm and managable.
This is a long distance endurance triathaton originally created by Cape May Point Beach Patrol guard Kristen Moorby (11 years experience). It was created to mirror the likes of Cape May Beach Patrol’s Superathalon geared for the strongest men in the area.
This event truly showcases the strength and endurance of the women who represent their beach patrols. It is a tribute to the day in and day out training and versatility of events they are able to do. These women are some of the best lifeguards in the state of NJ.
Local girls from Cape May Beach Patrol (Kerry Choplin and Meghan O’Leary) took an early lead in the first leg of the race and never looked back.
This year was the best turn out we’ve had yet, with 19 female competitors. We even had patrols from Northern New Jersey (Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol, Island Beach State Park, and Spring Lake Beach Patrol).
We are looking forward to an even bigger and more competitive field of female athletes for next year.
