GOSHEN — There were 300 Little League players on the field at Davies Sports Complex April 26 for the opening day of the 2014 season. Middle Township Mayor Timothy Donohue pitched the first ceremonial ball of the season under sunny, blue skies.
This year, the Little League organization expanded the size of the local area to encompass Stone Harbor, Avalon, Sea Isle City and Woodbine, league Vice President Sean Dougherty told the crowd of parents, families and well wishers who attended the annual event.
Alyssa Sullivan sang the national anthem and “God Bless America.”
Frank Dougherty administered the Little League Oath to all players and coaches.
F. Nathan “Nate” Doughty, former mayor and baseball advocate, sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” as a crew of cue-card holders from one of the teams stood by.
The remainder of the day was filled with games in every available Davies baseball diamond.
