Philadelphia Phillies Home Run Derby in Sea Isle City Attracted 100 Young Athletes

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – Each July, the Philadelphia Phillies Home Run Derby attracts boys and girls, ages 7 to 12, to Sea Isle City’s Dealy Field for a batting competition that young athletes just love! This year’s derby, which was hosted by the Sea Isle City Recreation Department on July 9, featured 100 children, who each stepped up to the plate in the hopes of sending line drives over the outfield fence.
With the use of an automatic pitching machine, Homerun Derby Organizer Paul Bradley, son of the event’s founder, gave each participant ten good pitches, allowing the youngsters to swing-away at will. At the end of the competition, the top batters in several divisions received plaques and the opportunity to advance to the derby’s next round of play in Milleville, NJ. The summer’s top overall batters will ultimately compete in the Homerun Derby Finals at Citizen’s Bank Park later this year.
On July 9, the winners in the Boys Division (ages 7-8) were Tyler Greene, 8, Ocean City, NJ, first place, and Tommy Bricker, 7, Lansdale, PA, second. Matt Kousmine, 8, Vineland, NJ, and Luke Gueriera, 7, West Chester, PA, tied for third.
