CAPE MAY – The Cape May Recreation Department is taking registration for their competitive Cape May Waves swim team.

The first practice will be held on Monday, Sept. 24 at the pool located on the Coast Guard Training Center Cape May at 1 Munro Ave. in Cape May. Swimmers must be registered to attend the first practice. A mandatory parents meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Cape May Elementary School Pool, located at 921 Lafayette St.

Visit the Cape May Recreation office at Cape May Convention Hall to pick up a registration form, or visit DiscoverCapeMayNJ.com to download a registration form.

The Cape May Waves offers children ages 5 to 18 the chance to participate in a competitive swim team that is designed for beginner through advanced skill levels. Beginner swimmers must already be able to swim in order to participate in the swim team. All swimmers must swim in four league meets to be eligible to swim in the championship meet.

The purpose of joining the Waves is for the swimmer to improve and make the most of team involvement. Swimmers can choose to come to all practice sessions or pick days. Coaches suggest 9 years old and under attend practice at least two days a week, 10 and 11 years old attend at least three days a week, and 12 years old and older at least four practices a week.
