SEA ISLE CITY – The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol (SICBP) will host their annual 1-Mile Ocean Swim July 12. The race is open to any individual or team of swimmers from swim clubs, high schools, colleges or beach patrols.
The traditional starting line for this box-swim is at the water’s edge on the 61st Street Beach, where competitors swim north. However, if extreme currents run north to south on race day, the starting line will be moved to the 27th Street Beach in an effort to have participants swim with the current. The finish line will be on the 44th Street Beach in front of SICBP headquarters.
The race will begin at 5:30 p.m., rain or shine. However, an electrical storm will necessitate postponing the swim until the first evening that conditions permit.
Individual participants can pre-register online for $20.00 per swimmer until July 8 at 11:59 p.m. Registration in person or by mail costs $30 per swimmer until July 12 at 4:30 p.m.
Online team pre-registration costs $22.00 per swimmer until July 8 at 11:59 pm. Team pre-registration by mail or in person costs $32.00 per swimmer until July 12 at 4:30 p.m. The number of entries allowed per team or beach patrol is unlimited.
This race will feature chip timing, and Compuscore Computer Services will provide race results. Wet suits will be permitted if the water temperature is at or below 68 degrees. Swimmers will be offered assistance transporting gear from the starting line to the finish line. Refreshments will be provided to participants at the finish line.
High quality 100% heavyweight cotton event tee-shirts will be given to the first 300 registrants. Trophies will be distributed to the top swimmers in numerous age groups and categories during an awards ceremony in front of SICBP headquarters at 6:30 p.m. on race day.
