OCEAN CITY — The balloting is complete. The people have spoken by plunking down cash for their favorites. Now all that remains is the big announcement. Which of the 12 competing pooches will be named Ocean City’s Dog of the year for 2011?
The popular contest is a fund raiser for the Ocean City Dog Park Assn. that provides a spacious place for canines to cavort at 45th and Haven Avenue. The announcement will be made at noon, Sun., Sept. 26 on the sun deck of the Port O’ Call Hotel, 15th and Boardwalk.
On paw to crown her successor will be Mae, a black Standard Poodle sponsored by Donna-Gay Dillon. “Mae is our therapy dog,” notes her best friend
. “When we lost our dear Basset, Pearl, Mae entered our lives and showed us why we should always have a pet in our home. This sweetheart is a joy to watch romp and interact with children and other dogs. Our trips to the dog park are highlights of our time here.”
The coronation will be followed at approximately 12:30 p.m. by a costume contest.
Then pooches will unwind with a relaxing swim in the Hotel’s heated pool. At first, the dogs are hesitant. But then, at the urging of their camera wielding best friends, they take the plunge and demonstrate the endearing Doggie Paddle.
There will be a silent auction and Dog of the Year T-Shirts and Calendars will be available. All proceeds benefit the dog park. The public is invited to this dog friendly event.
The program is sponsored by the Ocean City Dog Park Committee. Complete information plus photos and biographies of Dog of the Year contestants are available at www. oceancitydogpark.org. For information, call 609-927-6568 or the Public Relations Office, 609-525-9300.
