The Middle Township High School girls swimming team achieved their first Cape-Atlantic League National Conference title on Thursday, January 17.
“Winning the Cape-Atlantic League National Conference has always been a goal for our team,” Coach DeDe Bosacco said. “We’ve been very close for the past five years, but never brought the title home.”
Bosacco has coached the swim team for the last nine years, three of them as the head coach.
“The team was so excited and proud,” Bosacco said. “We have had many great teams in the past, but this team made history.”
The atmosphere in the George L. Hess Educational Complex was very intense. The meet was close in the beginning, Bosacco said.
“The girls showed that they came to this meet to take care of business,” Bosacco said. “They believed in their ability to win.”
Middle Township knew that Oakcrest was a strong competition.
“The meet was emotionally charged for both teams,” Bosacco said. “The girls had to focus on making it up in our areas of strength.”
The team stayed the course and showed their capabilities. The final score was 105 to 65.
“This team is just that, a team,” Bosacco said. “We could not have won that meet without every single swimmer. This team did not rely on their top swimmers, our second and third swimmers in each event rise to the challenge as well. They really wanted it.”
