Middle’s Maher Brothers to Play Soccer Together in Philly

By Herald Staff

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia KiXX announced Wednesday, Jan. 7 that the club has agreed to terms with defender Matthew Maher for a three-game/15-day contract, according to a report on OurSportsCentral.com.
With the acquisition, the Court House native joins his older brother, Anthony, on the KiXX roster marking the first time the duo has competed professionally indoors for the same team. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Maher began his professional indoor career with the New Jersey Ironmen after being selected second overall in the 2007 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) College Draft. The 24-year-old defender registered three points and 16 blocks in 13 contests in 2007-08 and also received Player of the Week recognition in December of 2007.
Prior to his time indoors with New Jersey, Maher competed with the Carolina RailHawks of the United Soccer League First Division (USL-1) where he was a teammate with Anthony.
The Temple University graduate, a four-year starter with the Owls, was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team his freshman year, team captain for his senior season, and to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star Team in January 2007. During his collegiate career, he also competed with the Ocean City Barons of the Premier Development League (PDL). Maher was also honored with First-team All-South Jersey and Third-Team All-State recognition after posting 32 goals and 17 assists during his junior year at Middle Township High School, the only player ever to receive such recognition in the school’s history.
Maher is scheduled to make his KiXX debut with the team’s trip north to battle the Massachusetts Twisters on Saturday, January 10. Game-time at the Eastern States Coliseum is scheduled for 7:35 pm ET and can be heard live via webcast at www.wmssfm.com. Veteran play-by-play man John Wilsbach will provide the call.
The club returns to the friendly confines of the historic Wachovia Spectrum to entertain the top-ranked Baltimore Blast on Saturday, January 17. The night is dubbed “Dollar Dog Night” where all hot dogs will be priced at $1. Kick-off is slated for 7:05 pm ET with the doors opening at 6:05 pm ET.
Philadelphia KiXX season tickets and 6-PaXX mini-plans are on sale now by calling the club’s ticket office at 1-888-888-KiXX (5499). Season ticket holders will receive invitations to KiXX events like the Meet the Team Party and Meet the Team Luncheon. Single-game tickets are now available through the KiXX and the Wachovia Center Box Office, as well as online at www.comcasttix.com and at select Acme Market locations in PA and NJ.
