COURT HOUSE — On March 11, Middle Township officials in conjunction with the the Middle Township Baseball/Softball Association held a grand opening of a new indoor batting cage facility located at the Davies Recreation Complex on Goshen Road.
The facility was constructed with the help of many volunteers, fundraisers and community businesses.
The facility will open to the public shortly with four batting tunnels plus areas for pitching and fielding, according to a release. Professional instruction will also be available for those interested.
“I am so proud of how the community came together to complete this project,” said Mayor Susan DeLanzo. “It’s sure to provide many hours of fun and enjoyment for the community’s youth.”
Deputy Mayor F. Nathan Doughty stated that the facility was constructed at “no cost to local taxpayers.”
“I would like to welcome you to our new indoor facility for baseball and softball,” said Dave Hand, vice president of the association.
“This opening of this facility is the culmination of both vision and hard work. What started out as an idea to provide a place for local youth to practice the fundamentals of baseball and softball year round turned into a community project.”
Hand thanked the following:
• Dr. Mike Saltzburg– for his generous financial support of our baseball/softball programs
• Mr. Gary Blum for his tireless efforts on behalf of this project – he has served as the project coordinator since the inception and has served us all very well
• Mr. Tom & Bill Feraco and Mr. Steve Wilson for their fundraising efforts especially the very successful “wine tasting events”
• All of the local contractors for their services for the completion of this facility. Tom Towers Atlantic Cape Builders, Anzelone Electric, Badame HVAC
• Middle Township Committee and the staff at the Recreation Department, Middle Township Public Works, for their support and assistance in bringing this idea to a reality
• All members of the MTBSA and the volunteer coaches, team parents, Frank Dougherty, Chuck Dougherty, HS Baseball Staff, Steve Novsak, Bill Camp who have worked to make sure that this facility is one to be proud of.
Doughty wanted to remind everyone that the fourth Wine Tasting Event was scheduled for April 23 at the Stone Harbor Golf Club.
DeLanzo and Doughty took a few swings in the batting cages making pretty good contact following the ceremony.
