COURT HOUSE — Soccer rules this weekend throughout Cape May County.
Oct. 6-7 is the 15th Annual George Pratt Memorial Columbus Day Invitational Soccer Tournament, hosted by Cape Express Soccer Club.
All games will be played in the Cape May County area on Saturday and Sunday only. No games will be played on Monday, Oct. 8, a holiday for many. The tournament is approved by the NJYSA.
In virtually every playable field, teams of boys and girls from around the East Coast convened to enjoy the sport of soccer. Gnats and heavy clouds aside in the morning, gave way to 85 degree temperatures in the afternoon on Saturday as skies cleared.
Not Just Soccer…
2007 Charity – Food for the Poor
Cape Express Soccer Club also announced that this year there will be a table at the Goshen, Lower, Dennis and Novsack field sites where wristbands will be sold to benefit Food for the Poor, www.foodforthepoor.org.
The club will also be collecting used balls, soccer equipment and uniforms and sending them to Haiti.
Details of the club’s specific involvement with Food for the Poor follows:
Cape May County is not just a location on the map of New Jersey. Cape May County is also the name of a small village being built in Bord de Mer, Haiti.
Haiti is the poorest country in our hemisphere, with an 80 percent unemployment rate. Almost half the population has never learned to read or write.
Many children do not live to be 5 years old, due to lack of food and clean water. Most families live in unsafe huts, made of sticks and mud, with dirt floors.
By sharing our blessings, Cape May County will build thirteen small but sturdy houses through Food for the Poor, the 3rd largest international charity in the US. FFP has a 4 star rating with 96% percent of all donations going directly to projects.
Cape Express Soccer Club is joining efforts with others in Cape May County and our tournament guests to give new homes and hope to destitute families in Haiti. Together, we can make it happen!
