CAPE MAY — Summer is coming to an end, but you still have time for plenty of kayaking adventure with Aqua Trails Kayaks at the Nature Center of Cape May.
Now through Sept. 6, daily “Tidal Marsh Kayak Eco-tours” are available at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. A naturalist-guide will accompany participants into the great Cape May Salt Marsh, where they can expect close encounters with ospreys, herons, egrets and beautiful salt marsh flora and fauna, as well as migrating shore birds on their way south to warmer waters.
Every Tuesday and Saturday through mid-September, enjoy an evening “Sunset Kayak Tour,” which is the Tidal Marsh Tour with the added bonus of a gorgeous late-summer sunset over the marsh and Cape May Harbor. Departure times vary; call for details.
“Full Moon Kayak Tours” offer all of the above plus the ascent of a full moon over peaceful marsh waters. There will be two more opportunities to catch one of these spectacular tours – Aug. 22-24 and again Sept. 21- 23. Again, departure times depend on the rising of the moon; call us for more information.
No previous kayaking experience is necessary. Call the Nature Center of Cape May, at 609-898-8848 to reserve your spot. The fee for each tour is $40 for a single kayak and $70 for a double. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a towel, protective water shoes and appropriate clothing for getting wet.
Ask yjr Aqua Trails staff about upcoming special paddles in Belleplain State Forest and at the Cove Beach. A Kayak Clinic will be held on Sat., Aug.21, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Kayaking tours depart from the nature center, located at 1600 Delaware Ave., on the shores of Cape May Harbor.
