Cape-Atlantic League Tournament Results
In girls’ first round action on Feb. 22, top-ranked Ocean City won against eighth-ranked Absegami, 44-29. Grace Sacco led the Red Raiders with 13 points. Second-ranked Middle Township won 57-41 over seventh-ranked Cedar Creek. Bridget Ruskey scored 18 points for the Panthers. Sixth-ranked Wildwood Catholic won on the road to third-ranked Atlantic City, 52-49. Ashley Jackson led the Crusaders with 23 points.
In the girls’ semifinals on Feb. 24 at St. Augustine Prep, second-ranked Middle Township took on sixth-ranked Wildwood Catholic and won a close game, 40-38. Jenna Herlihy led the Panthers with 15 points and Lauren Moretti led the Crusaders with 12 points. Top-ranked Ocean City won a close game against fifth-ranked Mainland, 29-26. Olivia Briggs scored 13 points for the Red Raiders.
In the girls’ finals on Feb. 27 at Stockton University, second-ranked Middle Township took on county rival and top-ranked Ocean City. The Panthers won 36-34 in overtime to win the 2016 Cape-Atlantic League Championship title. Bridget Ruskey led the Panthers with 19 points. The Red Raiders were led by Grace Sacco and Olivia Briggs, scoring 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
In the boys’ first round action on Feb. 22, fourth-ranked Middle Township hosted fifth-ranked Holy Spirit and won in a close game, 42-40. Tim Toney led the Panthers with 26 points. Seventh-ranked Ocean City fell to second-ranked Atlantic City, 68-47. Connor Laverty led the Red Raiders with 17 points. Third-ranked Wildwood Catholic fell to sixth-ranked Pleasantville, 83-72. DJ Smith led the Crusaders with 29 points.
In the boys’ semifinals on Feb. 25 at Absegami, fourth-ranked Middle Township fell to top-ranked St. Augustine Prep, 60-41. Tim Toney led the Panthers with 19 points.
Regular Season Girls Basketball
On Feb. 23, Cape May Tech hosted Vineland and won, 47-46. Philicia London scored 13 points for the Hawks. Lower Cape May earned a 42-30 road win at St. Joseph. Olivia Levin scores 15 points for the Caper Tigers.
On Feb. 25, Wildwood won 50-39 at Shalick. Mackenzie McCracken scored 17 points for the Warriors. Lower Cape May won 46-37 on the road at Cedar Creek. Olivia Levin scored a game-high 24 points for the Caper Tigers. Cape May Tech fell to Egg Harbor Township on the road, 40-34. Aras Walker scored 10 points for the Hawks.
On Feb. 26, Wildwood hosted Cumberland Christian and won, 68-21. Jillian Freeman led the Warriors with 24 points.
Regular Season Boys Basketball
On Feb. 22, Cape May Tech earned a 67-52 road win at Pennsville. Josh Wright led the Hawks with 32 points.
On Feb. 23, Lower Cape May fell 59-53 at Egg Harbor Township. Pat Holden scored 20 points for the Caper Tigers. Cape May Tech fell 54-43 at Oakcrest. Josh Wright scored 22 points for the Hawks.
On Feb. 24, Wildwood fell to Gloucester City, 74-47. Kyion Flanders scored 19 points for the Warriors.
On Feb. 25, Ocean City won 69-55 against Absegami. Garrett Jones led the Red Raiders with 21 points. Wildwood Catholic defeated Bridgeton at home, 105-65. DJ Smith led the Crusaders with 24 points. Lower Cape May fell to Buena Regional, 73-67. Pat Holden scored 25 points for the Caper Tigers. Cape May Tech fell to Egg Harbor Township, 72-53. Josh Wright scored 22 points for the Hawks.
On Feb. 26, Wildwood hosted Cumberland Christian and won, 87-64. Trayvon Young scored 16 points for the Warriors.
