Greater Wildwood Elks Announce Hoop Shoot Competition

By Press Release

NORTH WILDWOOD – The Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge #1896 of North Wildwood is proud to announce the local competition for the annual National Elks Hoop Shoot Competition. The free throw shooting competition will be held at the North Wildwood Recreation Center on Sat., Dec. 15, 2012. Registration will be from noon to 1 p.m. with the actual competition starting at 1 p.m. No sign ups will be allowed after 1 p.m. when the competition starts.
Over three million youngsters from throughout the United States entered the competition last year. The contest is for boys and girls in the age categories 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 years old. Each contestant has twenty-five shots at the basket from the foul line. Trophies are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group.
It’s important that all contestants bring proof of age to the registration to insure that all kids are in the correct age categories for the 2012-2013 Hoops Shoot Tournament. Copies of birth certificates are fine. Contestants’ age groups will be determined by the children’s ages on April 1, 2013.
First place winners from the local competition will go on to the southern district championships, which this year will be held in Jan. Winners from the southern district championships will then go on to the state championships in Feb., 2013. State winners will then go on to the national competition with the winners of that competition having their names inscribed on the National Elks Hoop Shoot Plaque, which is on display in the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Contact the Greater Wildwood Elks at 729-2170 with questions.
