Middle Township vs. Oakcrest, Oct. 4:
Not only did Middle Township rebound from a Sept. 20 loss to Buena, but they did it emphatically.
The Panthers defeated Gloucester Catholic, 28-0, in a West Jersey Football League (WJFL) United Division game last weekend. They now have a record of 3-1.
Middle will host Oakcrest, who has started the season with a 1-3 record.
“The kids responded very well after last week’s loss,” Middle Township Head Coach Frank Riggitano said. “We lost three starting linemen to injury, and the replacements played very well. Jayden Farrow moved from running back to center and played very well in particular.”
“If we continue to improve each week and get some injured players back we can win more games,” Riggitano added.
Ocean City at St. Augustine, Oct. 4:
It took four games, but for the first time this season, a team scored points against the Ocean City Red Raiders.
Ocean City defeated Absegami 44-6 Sept. 27 in a WJFL Independence Division matchup. In their three previous games, Ocean City outscored their opponents by a combined score of 126-0. They topped Lower Cape May (35-0), Egg Harbor Township (49-0), and Bridgeton (42-0) before the victory over Absegami.
The Red Raiders will now face their toughest test thus far, when they travel to face St. Augustine.
The Hermits, with a record of 1-3, lost a 14-7 overtime game against Shawnee Sept. 27 and may be hungry to knock Ocean City from the unbeaten ranks. They may have a losing record, but be assured that St. Augustine has faced a difficult schedule to this point, as evidenced by their lone 28-12 win over St. Joseph’s (Hammonton) Sept. 21.
In the triumph over Absegami, Joe Repetti threw touchdown passes to Leroy Cruz and Jake Schneider, while Isaac Wilson rushed for a touchdown as the Red Raiders controlled the contest in the first-quarter.
Wilson ran for another touchdown, and Repetti connected with Brad Jamison for a touchdown completion as Ocean City scored twice in the second quarter. Wilson added his third touchdown on the ground in the third quarter to close out the scoring.
Wildwood at Gloucester City, Oct. 4:
The Warriors, with a 0-3 record, are searching of their first win of the season when they travel to play the 1-3 Lions. Wildwood was defeated 36-6, by Riverside in a WJFL Classic Division game last weekend. Gloucester City is coming off of a 42-6 loss to Pleasantville.
Lower Cape May vs. Haddon Township, Oct. 4:
The Tigers are looking to rebound from a 48-7 WJFL United Division loss to Buena, when they host the 3-1 Hawks. Lower Cape May enters this contest with a record of 1-3.
