WILDWOOD – DaRon Jones, 24, born in Cape May County and residing in Wildwood aims for Team USA for the 2016 Olympics.
Jones began running track in high school after scoring a 110 yard touchdown during a football game his junior year. His coach immediately wanted him on the track team and his passion for track and field began. Jones is currently striving to qualify for Team USA for the 2016 Olympics in the 100- and 200-meter events and is also training for the long jump.
Jones’ training is intense, six days a week with a minimum of four hours a day including strength training as well as track time.
Jones made it to the 2012 Olympic trials with his own training but now with a coach and sponsor on his side, he is optimistic he will make the team this June.
Jones is in intense training now for the Millrose Games to be held Feb. 20, with high placement in this event he is one step closer to making Team USA.
